Once you read this you will see why we don’t talk about this stuff so much.. We are a small town and we love where we are, yes we’re isolated but perhaps on purpose..
South Walney Nature Reserve
Stay with me, I know this sounds a bit basic, but it’s really not! The North Tip of walney island is rich with Tall Tumbling Sand Dunes, secluded ponds and lakes and wild growth, it’s also the home to Seals, Dolphins, Bulls, Cows, Ducks and all kinds of wildlife. It’s a trek from Earnsey Bay (west shore) but worth every step! (I’d make it 7000 there and back) take a bottle of water and a camera! Or like us, take a rucksack with a mini picnic and sit by the lake (or Mexican Oasis as my daughter calls it).

Roanhead Beach
My dad used to take me blackberry picking at Roanhead. It’s a stunning beach and lined with huge Sand Dunes. Dog friendly, child friendly and couple friendly, this place is magical on a warm day! Take a blanket, a towel, drinks, snacks and sunscreen in the summer months. The rest of the year take your camera .
Piel Island
I’ve been visiting Piel since I was a baby, my great grandparents were once the King and Queen of the island (title for the landlords of the Ship Inn Pub). It’s a small but mighty island with a castle and a pub. There is a regular ferry to take you over and back from Roa Island. It’s a must see if you’re heading this way at any time of year.
Live Music & Events
Barrow-In-Furness is adorned with Musical talent and has been for as long as live music has been part of popular culture. Most bars have live music and karaoke on of a weekend and in the Summer there are loads of local festivals catering to all tastes! We’re a small town but we can carry a tune!
Bars and Restaurants
Barrow has always been famed for it’s night ‘out out’ but we now have a great ‘out’ scene too! From the famous Cajun chicken Baguette at The Crown Pub on Walney, to Salvana’s Tomato and chilli Garlic Bread.. you will love the variety of food on offer around here. Our local ‘dive bar’ scene is superb. Get your inner Liam Gallagher on, down with the locals at late night karaoke in the Theatre Bar, but first put your favourite tune on the old Jukebox in the Cross Keys. Play pool at The Devonshire the next day for hair of the dog (voted best pub in Barrow in furness) the locals will take care of you in here, everyone is welcome for a pint and a natter!
Thank you to our local community for the photo donations 🙂
